New Delhi, February 19, 2025 — In a historic move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced Rekha Gupta as Delhi’s next chief minister, marking the party’s return to power in the national capital after nearly three decades. Gupta, a first-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), secured a decisive victory in the Shalimar Bagh constituency during the recent Delhi assembly elections, unseating the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate, Bandana Kumari, by a margin of 29,595 votes.
The BJP’s resurgence in Delhi is underscored by its acquisition of 48 seats in the legislative assembly, significantly diminishing AAP’s previous dominance. Gupta’s elevation to the chief ministerial position was confirmed during the BJP’s legislature party meeting, which was attended by senior leaders Ravi Shankar Prasad and Om Prakash Dhankhar.
Rekha Gupta’s political journey has been marked by her active involvement in community initiatives and her commitment to addressing local issues. Her leadership is anticipated to bring a fresh perspective to Delhi’s governance, focusing on development, women’s safety, and infrastructural improvements.
In her first public statement following the announcement, Gupta expressed gratitude to her supporters and emphasized her dedication to fulfilling the BJP’s promises to the people of Delhi. She is scheduled to meet with the Lieutenant Governor to formally stake her claim to form the government and is expected to take the oath of office tomorrow.
This development signifies a significant political shift in Delhi, with the BJP aiming to implement its vision for the city’s future under Gupta’s leadership.
