After the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, Twitter banned the account. On Friday night, Elon Musk, the company’s new CEO, asked Twitter users if they thought Trump should be allowed back on the platform.
“The people have had their say. Trump will be reinstated, Musk wrote in a tweet late on Saturday. Latin for “the voice of the people is the voice of God” is “Vox Populi, Vox Dei.”
On Saturday night, the final poll results showed 51.8% in favor and 48.2% opposed. 15 million people participated in the poll.

The former president is set to return to the social media platform where he was previously its most prominent, if contentious, user, thanks to the much-anticipated decision from the new owner. With nearly 90 million followers, his tweets frequently affected the markets, shaped the news cycle, and influenced Washington’s agenda.
Trump has previously stated that he would stay on his platform, Truth Social, rather than join Twitter again, but a shift in his stance could have significant political repercussions. In order to become only the second commander-in-chief ever elected to two nonconsecutive terms, the former president declared this month that he would run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

The former president characterized Musk as “a character, and I tend to like characters.” But he is intelligent.

Twitter frequently used a light-handed approach to policing his account, at times arguing that as a public figure, the then-president needed to be given ample freedom to express himself.
The tide, however, shifted as Trump’s term came to a close and he started tweeting false information about alleged election fraud. The business started adding cautionary notes to his tweets in an effort to correct his false statements before the 2020 presidential election. And after the riot at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, the platform permanently barred him.
Twitter at the time stated, “After carefully examining recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them, we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further inciting violence.” “We made it clear on Wednesday that additional violations of the Twitter Rules could result in this very course of action in light of the horrific events this week,” reads a statement from Twitter.
Users and some employees had questioned whether the platform might experience outages or other problems as a result of the company’s mass employee departures. There have already been some hiccups with Twitter in recent days, including with the function that enables users to download their data from the website.
