Matt Lucas makes his exit from the Great British Bake Off public. Matt Lucas has left the Great British Bake Off, claiming he cannot continue working on it while still juggling his other ventures.

In a heartfelt message, the host thanked his co-host Noel Fielding, whom he affectionately referred to as “Noelipops,” as well as the judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, as well as the production crew, and broadcaster Channel 4.

The comedian posted the following on social media: “Farewell Bake Off! It’s been a wonderful experience, and I can’t think of a more enjoyable way to spend my summers. But I’ve realized I can’t show Bake Off and Fantasy Football League with my other initiatives. I gladly pass the baguette to someone after three series and 51 episodes.

I want to express my sincere appreciation to everyone at Love Productions and Channel 4, as well as to Noelipops, Paul, Dame Prue, the crew, and of course, the beautiful bakers for welcoming me inside the tent. I want the best for whoever succeeds, and I can’t wait to watch the upcoming season without knowing the outcome!

A screenshot of Lucas’ post was also posted on the official Twitter account for The Great British Bake Off.

“We’ve loved having Matt Lucas cheer up our Tent over the last three years, especially when laughter and smiles were much needed,” they wrote. We value everything he has done for Bake Off, including helping the bakers and working in covid bubbles. Thank you, it’s been a pleasure.

After Sandi Toksvig stepped down as host, Lucas has co-hosted the show for the past three seasons with comedian Fielding.

Following the announcement, viewers of the show expressed their disappointment at his departure.

“This makes me incredibly sad,” one person wrote. Matt, it was fun to watch you! I wish you luck!

Another person stated: “I’m unfortunate to see Matt leave. On Bake Off, I adored him. He got along well with Noel. I sincerely hope Noel will continue.”

A third person said, “I’m going to miss Matt! He was fantastic! Matt, thanks for the beautiful seasons!

Although the replacement for Lucas is still up in the air, some names have already been suggested on social media.

One person demanded Richard Ayoade, but another recommended Stacey Solomon. And someone else made the somewhat bizarre choice to suggest Matt Hancock as a host.
