Lewis Pullman on His First Emmy Nomination and Marvel Future
Lewis Pullman, the actor who earned his first Emmy nomination for his role in "Lessons in Chemistry," is taking it all in stride. Not just an Emmy nominee, Pullman is also stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with "Thunderbolts" and reflects on how nothing compares to the nerves of flying in an F-18 for "Top Gun: Maverick."
Pullman admits the news hasn’t fully sunk in yet. “I’m still in my pajamas, and I was trying to ignore my exploding phone during a Zoom call,” he laughs. This first-time nomination has left him in a state of disbelief and excitement.
The Emmy campaign trail has been a whirlwind. Pullman was particularly starstruck meeting Ayo Edebiri and Dakota Fanning. He humorously recounts a congratulatory text from Lamorne Morris, who playfully introduced himself as “the other handsome guy in your category.”
Pullman’s parents were overjoyed. His father, actor Bill Pullman, sent a simple yet heartfelt text: “Yay — the nomination!!!!” The family keeps their messages short and sweet, and this news was no exception.
Though Pullman briefly met Ayo Edebiri, who is also in "Thunderbolts," their interaction was fleeting. He congratulated her on her work but didn’t delve into their Marvel connection. He’s eager for more opportunities to collaborate and share experiences.
Pullman is ready for the whirlwind of Emmy events. He’s eager to shake hands, kiss babies, and meet fellow nominees he deeply respects. The list of nominees includes many of his personal favorites, making the anticipation even more thrilling.
When asked about standout performances, Pullman mentions Andrew Scott, Jon Hamm, Matt Bomer, Richard Gadd, and Tom Hollander. He’s particularly impressed by the cast of "The Bear" and always roots for Walton Goggins, whom he has worked with before.
