Over 2,000 Pounds of Frozen Chicken Recalled in the US Due to Listeria Risk

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced a nationwide recall of more than 2,000 pounds of frozen chicken products due to potential Listeria contamination. The recall affects products imported from Canada.

The recall was issued for 2,010 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken products produced by Canadian importer Al Safa US LLC. The USDA revealed that the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected products were produced in Canada on June 5 and imported to the US on June 13 and June 21. The recall includes two specific items: Al Safa Halal Charcoal Grilled Chicken Seekh Kebab and Al Safa Halal Fully Cooked Chicken Chapli Kebab.

The specific products being recalled are a 12.1-ounce package of “Al Safa Halal Charcoal Grilled Chicken Seekh Kebab” and a 14.11-ounce package of “Al Safa Halal Fully Cooked Chicken Chapli Kebab.” Both packages are marked with “NOV 30 25” and specific production codes.

The recall was initiated following routine testing by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), which found indications of potential Listeria contamination. This prompted immediate action to protect public health.

Listeriosis, the infection caused by Listeria monocytogenes, poses significant health risks, particularly to vulnerable groups such as older adults, individuals with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women.

Symptoms of Listeriosis can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. In pregnant women, Listeriosis can lead to serious complications like miscarriages, stillbirths, and severe infections in newborns.
