Zack Snyder to Direct High-Stakes LAPD Thriller for Netflix
Zack Snyder Teams Up with Kurt Johnstad for Action-Packed LAPD Movie, Produced by Stone Quarry for Netflix
Zack Snyder is returning to the director’s chair for a gripping new action thriller centered on the Los Angeles Police Department. The film, which is currently untitled, is set to stream on Netflix and marks Snyder’s latest collaboration with the platform. Known for his work on 300, Justice League, and Army of the Dead, Snyder will co-write the script with his frequent collaborator Kurt Johnstad, whose credits include Atomic Blonde and 300.
The film is set in the high-stakes, morally complex world of the LAPD, where an elite unit faces life-and-death decisions that challenge their sense of justice. According to the official logline, the story will delve into the intense collision of law and morality, exploring the personal and professional challenges faced by officers in one of the most dynamic law enforcement agencies in the world.
Snyder expressed his excitement about the project, reflecting on a long-standing conversation he had with producer Dan Lin about creating a visceral, character-driven story within the tough, compelling landscape of the LAPD. “Years ago, Dan Lin and I talked about how much we wanted to tell this kind of story,” Snyder shared in a statement. “It’s a conversation that stuck with me, and now, I’m thrilled to partner with him and Netflix to bring it to life.”
The film is produced by Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, and Wesley Coller through their production company, Stone Quarry. This project follows a successful track record of collaborations between Stone Quarry and Netflix, including the Rebel Moon duology, Army of the Dead, and its spinoff Army of Thieves. In September 2024, the company also released the animated series Twilight of the Gods on Netflix.
While Rebel Moon received mixed reviews, with some critics calling it “derivative” and “overblown,” Snyder is no stranger to polarizing reactions to his films. Reflecting on past criticisms, he has always maintained a confident stance on his work. “I don’t really have a rebuttal to the reviews,” he said earlier this year. “My movies have always generated strong reactions, and I think that’s just part of the territory. I don’t mind it.”
With this new LAPD thriller, Snyder is venturing into uncharted territory, combining his signature action style with a story that promises to be as intense as it is morally complex. As Netflix continues to develop new content under its ongoing partnership with Snyder, fans can look forward to more high-octane, character-driven narratives from the director.
