Iran has completed an agreement to purchase Russian fighter jets.

Iran’s deputy defence minister announced that arrangements have been finalized for the delivery of Russian-made Sukhoi su-35 fighter jets and helicopters. Iran has completed an agreement to purchase Russian fighter jets. This development comes as Tehran and Moscow strengthen their military ties. 

Iran’s air force possesses a limited number of strike aircraft, consisting of both Russian jets and older U.S. models obtained prior to the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

“Iran’s Army is set to bolster its combat units with the addition of Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets, Mil Mi-28 attack helicopters, and Yak-130 jet trainers,” revealed Iran’s deputy Defence Minister Mehdi Farahi. 

The Tasnim report did not mention any confirmation from Russia regarding the deal. 

Last year, Iran announced the commencement of production for the domestically-developed Kowsar fighter, intended for deployment in its air force.   According to military experts, the jet closely resembles the F-5, which was originally manufactured in the United States during the 1960s.
