Bavarian Inn Lodge is building the largest indoor water park in Michigan. On Tuesday, at the Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth, a project that will change the landscape of Michigan’s tourism industry got underway.
The well-known resort held a groundbreaking ceremony for an $80 million renovation that will add more than 140,000 square feet of indoor water park space, making it Michigan’s most significant.
Twenty new attractions, including numerous water slides, a wave pool, and an adult-only swim-up bar, are being added by Bavarian Inn Lodge to its indoor water park and family entertainment area.
According to Michael Keller Zehnder, president of the Bavarian Inn Lodge, “this next phase of our growth is focused on developing unique attractions and fresh experiences for all guests at our resort.”

Along the Cass River in Frankenmuth, the Bavarian Inn Lodge offers 360 rooms decorated in a European style.
Two water slides, three pools, two whirlpools, more than 160 activities, a two-level kids’ play village, and the indoor mini-golf course Willy’s Kingdom are all features of the current 35,000-square-foot Family Fun Center.
The current indoor water park will continue to operate normally throughout the redevelopment. While the project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2024, some new attractions will start opening in approximately a year.
The six previous sections of the Bavarian Inn Lodge were constructed by R.C. Hendrick & Son, who will also function as general contractors for the water park development.
Chip Hendrick, the owner of the Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn, said, “Our family business is proud to be a longtime partner to another Michigan family business, the Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn, and we look forward to seeing their vision come true.
