Building on the success of its Kickstarter-debuted desktop display, Looking Glass Portrait, the company has announced that it is now expanding the awe-inspiring capabilities of holographic displays into a portable, compact design.

Looking Glass Go, which reduces the holographic experience to the size of a cell phone, promises a more convenient and accessible method of transforming 2D and 3D imagery, including ChatGPT-generated characters, into genuine holographic projections.

Individuals can engage in the realistic 3D hologram conversion of 2D photographs, spatial images captured by Luma AI, and spatial art. Looking Glass Go eliminates the requirement for VR or AR headsets and allows users to share these experiences from any location and anytime.

“Generative AI and 3D spatial platforms are converging,” said Shawn Frayne, CEO of Looking Glass, based in Hong Kong and Brooklyn, New York, in a statement. “Spatial platforms are on the rise, fueled by Apple’s announcement of the Vision Pro, the iPhone 15’s spatial photo capabilities, and the prevalence of 3D game engines and more powerful GPUs.”

The company highlighted the following attributes:

Ensuring Accessibility for All: Making spatial innovation accessible to millions, Looking Glass Go empowers tech enthusiasts, 3D creators, artists investigating generative AI, and innovative brands. The company asserts that the device and AI software suite enable an extensive range of possibilities, including interactive conversations with customizable characters and the ability to relive and share holographic memories.

2D to 3D Conversion: Looking Glass claims this technology provides a smooth and uninterrupted shift from 2D to 3D, allowing users to relive cherished moments and characters in a vivid holographic exhibition.

AI Companion: Looking Glass Go, an innovative fusion of the Liteforms application and ChatGPT, introduces a personal AI companion that enables users to effortlessly interact with holographic characters while initially speaking English or Japanese; future language support will be expanded.

The six-inch holographic display, which is approximately ten times thinner than its predecessors and features twice the pixel density, produces holograms that exhibit remarkable depth and realism. Operating on redesigned superstereoscopic optics, Looking Glass Go generates holographic projections surpassing the device’s limitations, providing simultaneous access for multiple observers.

Smooth and Potent: Providing an intuitive interface that eliminates the need for programming or 3D modeling, Looking Glass Go facilitates the effortless transformation of 2D images into 3D holograms. The device offers sophisticated users well-versed in programming or 3D modeling the opportunity to unleash their creativity by using robust plugins and libraries for Blender, WebXR, Unity, Unreal (UE5), and Blender.

Working in the home, the office, or while traveling, Looking Glass Go connects effortlessly to PCs and Macs via USB-C. According to the manufacturer, an additional battery guarantees hours of uninterrupted holographic projection for mobile devices.
