Tuesday at Haneda airport in Tokyo, a Japan Airlines aircraft carrying at least 367 passengers was reported to have caught fire on a runway following a potential collision with a Coast Guard aircraft, according to Nippon TV. Flames emanated from the windows of Japan Airlines flight JL516, an Airbus A350, as it descended the tarmac. At the same time, fire personnel frantically attempted to extinguish the blaze, as captured on live footage by public broadcaster NHK. According to preliminary reports, rescue operations were in progress as the aircraft was engulfed in flames.

The Coast Guard stated that an investigation was underway into the likelihood that a passenger jet collided with one of its aircraft.

The aircraft, which took off from Shin-Chitose airport in Hokkaido, was transporting more than 300 passengers, according to a Japan Airlines spokesperson.
