Involuntary manslaughter charges will be filed against Alec Baldwin for the shooting death of actor Rust. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot and murdered on site, and actor Alec Baldwin will be charged with involuntary manslaughter for the incident.

At the time of the shooting in October 2021 on a ranch near Sante Fe, New Mexico, Mr. Baldwin was practicing a scene for the Western picture Rust.

Even the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, will face charges.

Both parties’ attorneys have stated their intent to defend the allegations in court.

A statement from Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, released on Thursday, indicated that charges would be brought by the end of the month as promised.

The statement said that Alec Baldwin, an actor, producer, and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, a weapon specialist, “shall each be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter,” the statement said. In my opinion, the proof is strong enough.

Everyone deserves justice, and on my watch, no one will be immune to the law,” she declared.

If found guilty, everyone could spend up to 18 months in prison and pay a fine of up to $5,000 (£4,040). Prosecutors have indicated that a jury trial will be held.

Prosecutors have stated that they will not be filing charges concerning the shooting injury that film director Joel Souza sustained.

Ms. Hutchins’s husband, Matthew, issued a statement expressing his approval of the criminal proceedings being brought against his wife. They can take solace in the fact that “no one is above the law in New Mexico,” he said to the grieving relatives.

A tragic miscarriage of justice,” said Mr. Baldwin’s attorney Luke Nikas, who was against filing charges.

“Mr. Baldwin had no reason to suspect there was a live bullet in the revolver – or elsewhere on the movie set,” Mr. Nikas added. “He trusted the experts he collaborated with, who assured him the weapon was empty. We will defend ourselves against these false accusations.”

Ms. Gutierrez-attorney, Reed’s meanwhile, said that the news was made before a “very faulty investigation and an inaccurate grasp of the complete facts” was made public.

As her father, Todd Bullion, said, “Hannah is and has always been very emotional and heartbroken about this unfortunate situation.” But she did not commit involuntary manslaughter.

Mr. Baldwin said the gun had accidentally fired after the incident. He clarified that he wasn’t the one who fired the weapon and didn’t even realize it was loaded. “It’s a mystery to me what went down on that set. I have no idea how the bullet ended up in that rifle. For what reason, he explained, “This is what he had to say.

There was a settlement with Ms. Hutchins’ family in October involving the 64-year-old actor and the film’s production company for an undisclosed amount.

It was in response to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the cinematographer’s husband, who claimed that professional norms had been breached.

In a statement at the time, Mr. Hutchins said, “All of us believe Halyna’s death was a sad accident.” I’m not interested in arguing who is at fault or who is at fault.

The film’s production was supposed to pick back again this year, with Mr. Hutchins serving as an executive producer.
